It was learnt that the manufacturer – Eterna Plc – had sent a 30-year-old Akinola to withdraw the sum from the United bank for Africa in the Marina peninsula on Thursday, November 17.
On getting back to the Company, he reportedly told his boss that he had been kidnapped on the way from the bank, pronouncing that his abductors dispossessed him of the money and his telephones.
It was however gathered that Akinola was arrested by the police shortly after.
Police investigation reportedly ascertained that he faked his own kidnap.
He was mentioned to have led the operatives to the fence of a school in the Bariga area, where $30,000 hid inside a concrete block was then recovered.
Whilst being paraded on Friday at the Lagos State Command headquarters in Ikeja, the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, mentioned that Akinola stripped himself and threw his telephones right into a river to in order to stiffen the evidences.
He said, “The suspect was a staff with a multinational manufacturer within the state. He was asked to withdraw a sum of $50,000. After withdrawing the money, he faked his own kidnap and claimed that the kidnappers absconded with the cash.
“The police were able to locate $30,000 out of the lumpsome. He confessed to have given out $15,000. We're making efforts to get the remaining sum.”
However, Akinola denied feigning his abduction, announcing one Kingsley, who purportedly lives in uk, colluded with a fraudster to swindle him out of the money.
The father of two children stated Kingsley’s partner hypnotised him, including that the person had left earlier than it dawned on him that he had been defrauded.
He said, “i'm equally into music. I used to talk with one Kingsley within the UK, who wanted to help me with one of my track. I chatted with him that day and disclosed to him that I had just withdrawn $50,000. He informed me he needed $15,000. He sent someone to meet me around Marina to acquire the cash. It was after the person absconded with the money and my phones and left that I came to my senses.
“I was very confised and couldn't think through on what to do. At that instant, I made up my minds to hide the remainder $35,000 behind a school in Bariga, and left for Epe to commit suicide. On getting there, I changed my mind and reported to the police that I had been robbed.”
The suspect mentioned that he was once identified for honesty, which had earned him awards from the manufacturer every 12 months.
“I earn over N120,000 monthly. I didn’t have intention of using the cash to promote my music. That wasn't the first time i would withdraw money for the company in my capacity as the Accounting Officer. I had withdrawn more than that in the past. I've been working with the corporation for five years,” he reiterated.
